Best Ways to Brew Caffeine Free Coffee
There are so many great coffee alternative products out there, but what is the best way to brew them and bring out their incredible flavors? It depends on the taste you are looking for, convenience, and your budget.
Automatic Drip Coffee Machines
Let’s start with the old standby, automatic drip machines. These workhorses have been around for years and with periodic cleaning, can last for many more years. One of the best features? Many have timers so you can just set it up before you go to bed and awake to the smell of freshly brewed coffee. Yum…
Some of the best we’ve seen:
The Ninja CE251 Programmable Brewer with a 12-cup glass carafe and a black and stainless steel finish. It’s a beautiful piece of equipment and reasonably priced around $80-$100.
Looking for something more retro? Check out the Smeg DCF02BLUS, a 50's look with 10 cup capacity. Besides the standard stainless or black, It comes in a variety of fun colors like red, light blue, light green and even pink. This coolness factor comes with a price: about $250.
Just want your coffee and couldn’t care less about the added frills? The Black+Decker CM1160B 12-cup coffee maker in black and stainless steel will get the job done and for under $30!
French Press
Once you become a French press coffee drinker, it’s hard to go back to machines. Paper filters do a great job at filtering out coffee grounds but unfortunately, they also take out the oils and some of the flavor. With a French press you also have more control over the amount of time you would like the coffee to steep so you can make a very rich cup of coffee. You also have much more consistent water temperature throughout the process unlike machines that heat up and cool down quickly which can affect the brewing quality.
Here are some great options:
My absolute favorite, every day option is the Bobble French Coffee Travel Presse for $25. It can hold up to 14 oz and can double as a thermal insulated to-go tumbler. It’s slim design fits perfectly in car beverage holders and will keep coffee hot for hours. It literally takes me about 3 minutes to brew a perfect cup of coffee and walk out the door. An added bonus? It’s great for making iced coffee as well by just adding the grounds and water the night before and keeping it in the fridge.
For more than one cup of coffee, my other go to is the Mueller French Press Double Insulated 304 Stainless Steel Coffee Maker. Dishwasher-safe and rust-proof, it’s a steal at $30.
K-Cup Capable Singe Serve Coffee Makers
Keurig dominates this market and for good reason. It’s hard to beat the simplicity. and convenience. The downside? Those darn single use k-cups made of plastic. Luckily, there are some great reusable k-cup options which work perfectly with some of our favorite caffeine free coffee grounds.
Here are some Keurig and other brands to choose from:
It’s hard to go wrong with the Keurig K-Classic single serve model which retails about $100. It’s large 48 oz water reservoir allows you to make 6 cups before having to refill it.
Love your lattes and cappuccinos? Check out the Keurig K-Cafe Special Edition Latte and Cappuccino Maker priced just under $200. It’s milk frother is dishwasher safe making cleanup a breeze.
Mueller has a great alternative for a reasonable price of $55, the Ultimate Single Serve Coffee Maker. This machine is compact enough to bring to the office or even use in your RV.
Don’t forget your reusable k-cups!
Coffee in a Tea Bag
One of my favorite herbal coffees is made by Teecino. They ingeniously put their caffeine free coffee into tea bags so you can steep your coffee on the go! This is great for travel, in the office, or anywhere it’s just impossible to get a caffeine free cup of coffee. Check out their variety pack here. I guarantee you’ll be back for a whole box of each delicious flavor.
